Am 16.04.2012 ist Release Datum für die nächste Version von Data Protector – Version 7.0. Der Download wird in Kürze auf der bekannten Seite zur Verfügung gestellt, die Bestellung von Medien (DVD) ist ab dem 1. Mai möglich. Wie immer gilt: für Kunden mit bestehendem Wartungsvertrag ist das Update auf die neue Version kostenlos (Passport Account benötigt), die bisherigen Lizenzen behalten ihre Gültigkeit.

Die Version 7.00 ist ein vollständige Installation und die wichtigste Neuerung ist Deduplication auf der Client Seite, so dass die Deduplizierungs Strategie innerhalb von Data Protector nun komplett ist. Die Deduplizierung erfolgt dabei unabhängig ob es sich um eine Filesystemsicherung oder Datenbanksicherung handelt. Als weitere wichtige und erwartete Neuerung wird nun auch GRE für Exchange verfügbar. Die Integration der Autonomy Tools in Data Protector runden die neue Version ab.

    I’ve got question on the new DP 7.00.
    I’ve updated an System from DP 6.11 to 7.00 and the update was OK so far.

    The only failure I now have, that i can not update the DP Clients that where install before because there DP service is running under the local system account.
    After I’ve changed the client DP service to run under a domain admin account, the update off these client via Cell Manager worked.
    Does anybody know how I can set, that if i add a Client the DP service on this client is running under the domain-admin account ??

  2. Hey guys, How many have installed and tested the new release, and what differences,enhancements, advantages have you noticed thus far from 6.0 and 6.2? We are upgrading from 6.0 to 7 next week, and migrating our backups to disk (SAN EVA 6100), so I was wanting to get some feedback! Thanks!

    local system account for the clients is OK (except clusters), please have a look at omniinetpasswd and impersonate the user for the installation (search within the blog).

  4. Hi Chris, there are a lot of differences between 6.0 and 7.0. To get a fast overview and a good preparation for the upgrade look at ProductAnnouncements.pdf on install media.

    DP 7.0 is a GA release / upgrade for DP 6.2 or only a PC backup sw?

  6. Hi Jago, it is a release not for the pc backup sw. So the new version for DP 6.11, 6.2, 6.21, …
