These are up-to-date for version 9.02.

The first is a book for operators: “Operating, running and supporting HP Data Protector 9”. This is designed for people who need to learn how to do restores, log support calls, monitor backups and so on. It’s the kind of book that you can give as part of your hand-over documentation when you have completed a new implementation. It’s also very appropriate for someone just starting in a role where they are supporting Data Protector.

The second book is for a more general audience: “Planning, Deploying and Installing Data Protector 9: For the datacentre, the cloud and remote offices”. It is a much larger book, and covers many topics not otherwise mentioned anywhere else. For example: how to backup servers that already are in the cloud; using HP’s backup-to-Helion service; the schema of the internal database; results of surveys on what customers buy Data Protector for, and so on. It covers many common designs (e.g. backing up to disk, low-bandwidth site-to-site copies) and lots of basic set up (what agents to install where, what installation servers you will need, best practices for media pool management).

Both books are available in paperback, Kindle, PDF and EPUB. While they weren’t written specifically to help with the certification exam, most of the Data Protector 9.x (HP0-A113) content is covered if you have bought both books (as well as other topics).

Pick up a copy at http://www.ifost.org.au/books

Please note: the books will not replace any official class room training provided by HP for HP Data Protector.

Greg Baker (see link) has released two new books about Data Protector 9.
