This question raises up periodically: what is the installation order for the available Data Protector patches? As there are dependencies, which can be reviewed in the description files of the patches, you have to follow the described order from the description file. However, the common rule to install patches is:
- if available: patch bundle,
- Core,
- Cell Server,
- Cell Console,
- Disk Agent,
- Media Agent,
- all remaining updates (i.e. SAP, Oracle, Dokumentation, StoreOnce, et cetera).
For Windows based cell server the patches are installed on cell server first (in most cases the cell server is installation server too) and afterwards on all remaining installation servers. Now all the clients can be upgraded using the Data Protector GUI (for cluster use the manual way). For Linux/Unix based cell servers and installation servers after the installation of patches the client component of these servers must be upgraded using the “Upgrade” feature in DP GUI. It is always recommended to read the patch description file before installing the updates, as in these files new features or new omnirc variables might be introduced and documented. To automate the patch installation in Windows environments the parameter -s -a -w -quiet
, i.e. DPWIN_00623.EXE -s -a -w -quiet
can be used.
Hinweis: In MoM (Manager of Manager) environment the MoM server is updated first, followed by all remaining cell server. You follow the same patch installation order for a single cell server in MoM environments. The general recommendation is to update all cell server and the MoM server in the same timeframe, only in exceptional cases you would do the updates within a period of a few days instead of one day.
